BioBridge offers several options for engaging teachers and graduate students in science education partnerships. Our goals are to facilitate opportunities for teachers to connect with the scientific research community, for UCSD graduate students to gain experience in developing and implementing science curriculum, and to provide a supporting and enriching community for high school students to engage with science.
CyberBridge - an NSF-funded initiative and in partnership with San Diego State University and UCSD, this project forms multi-disciplinary teacher teams within participating high schools and pairs them with an SDSU science research group. Working together, teacher teams will engage students in a technology project by using multi-media and cyber infrastructure to help students communicate real-world scientific research.

Socrates Fellows - an NSF-funded initiative, funded in part by the Hughes Scholars Program, this project pairs UCSD science graduate students with a secondary science teacher from a participating school. Teachers and graduate students participate in a 5-week summer institute at UCSD that includes coursework on teaching strategies, problem-based-learning, and teaching through inquiry. In addition, ample opportunity is given for teachers to work in the research lab with the graduate students to begin development of research-based activities (projects, lab protocols, etc) that will be implemented throughout the school year in partnership between the graduate student and teacher.
