San Diego Science Festival


Throughout the first five days, various lectures, competitions, presentations, and interactions will take place in venues throughout San Diego County. Scientists will visit local schools; companies and universities will open their labs for tours and exhibits; ballrooms, conference centers, and restaurants will open their doors for public and private events. All of the various venues and activities throughout the week are projected to engage over 300,000 participants.

As a weekend finale, The Science Experience Expo will be held in Balboa Park. Held in conjunction with and complimentary to the Science and Engineering Fair, the Festival will bring in booths and attractions, as well as integrate and collaborate with Balboa Park Museums and their exhibits. Projecting a two-day audience of over 60,000, the Expo will present interactions, entertainment, education, and exhibits based on the following themed areas:

The Science of You: A broad spectrum of interactive exhibits geared to all audiences of all ages and science literacy. Patrons can engage in science activity aimed at emphasizing the application and existence of science and technology in our daily lives. The science of golf, wine, exercise & nutrition, action sports, Harry Potter, sailing, surround sound, and more.

Tomorrow’s Science Today: Exhibits, presentations, round-table discussions, and debates, primarily designed by academic and industry research focusing on the up-and-coming sciences that will transform our world and quality of life. With both open and audience-specific attractions, this area will include content such as Nanotechnology, Green Energy and the Environment, Stem Cell, Technology and Web 3.0, Gaming, Eastern & Western Medicine, and more.

The Showcase: Awards, contest winners and exhibits, scholarships, VIP’s, sponsors, etc., will all be showcased in this area. Contests and competitions in local schools will occur throughout the year and be judged and displayed here linking education with community support. Scientists, researchers, companies, and educators who impact others with science will also be recognized for their contributions to society.

Job Fair: To bridge the gap between science academics and industry, as well as contribute to economical development and the strength of the San Diego workforce, companies and institutes will connect with the local community for volunteer, internship, and career opportunities.

Other venues and entertainment: In addition to the magnificent science interaction, the festival will be host to films, music, public and private dinners, celebrations, and more. From IMAX showings to delicious food, no matter what people come for, they’ll leave with a better understanding and appreciation for science.
